What happens when you get in touch
Somebody in the office answers and either deals with it or puts it in front of one of the owners, who price the jobs and run them. Enquiries do not sit. The first conversation is short, and covers the building and how it is used, what you want doing, and roughly what budget you have in mind. The budget comes up early because it is the quickest way for both sides to know the job is a fit, and it saves you a fortnight waiting on a figure that was never in the right region. A few details is enough for us to come back with a price, usually the same day. Where the work needs a visit or a survey we arrange one, so the price is built on the building rather than a drawing, and you get the full scope and the price before any work is agreed.
What to have ready for the first conversation
None of it is needed before you call, but it makes the first ten minutes worth more. It helps to know what the building is and how it is used, which rooms or areas are involved, and whether the job is a refurbishment, a fit-out or an existing installation. Say if an architect, a designer or a main contractor is involved, and name any fixed date, a term start or a lease date. A recent EICR or certificate answers several questions at once. And a rough budget, even a wide one.
For main contractors, high end builders and architects
We would rather be in the conversation while the drawings are still open than be handed a fixed layout at second fix. We price against tender documentation and specifications, we work to a main contractor’s programme, and cat B fit-out is familiar ground. Can you give me a price over the phone
A rough steer, yes, and often enough to say whether the job is worth taking further. A firm price, no. Cable routes, spare capacity in the boards and the age of the installation all change the cost, and none of it can be read down a telephone line. The price follows the visit.
Is there a charge for a visit or a survey

What sort of work do you take on
